Protecting Your Investment: The Essential Guide to Pre and Post-Treatment Skincare
A great clinical treatment is only half the equation. Whether you’ve just had a laser session, microneedling, or a deep chemical peel, the skincare you use at home before and after your appointment plays a significant role in your final results.
Think of it this way: a clinical treatment gives your skin a powerful head start, but your home routine is what carries it the rest of the way. The clients who see the best, longest-lasting results are the ones who treat their skincare as part of the process, not an afterthought.
Why Aftercare Matters
After a laser or microneedling session, your skin is in active repair mode. We have intentionally triggered your body’s natural healing response to stimulate collagen and elastin production. During this window, your skin is more permeable and more sensitive. What you apply in the days that follow either supports that healing process or works against it.
The right routine makes your results last longer and go deeper. The wrong one can cause irritation, slow down the renewal process, or even lead to unwanted pigmentation.
What to Reach For After Your Treatment
During the healing window, less is more. You want to focus on hydration, barrier repair, and soothing ingredients.
- Gentle Recovery Cream or Barrier Repair Moisturizer: Look for products designed to support the skin’s natural lipid barrier.
- Peptides: These are essential because they signal your skin to produce more collagen, amplifying the effects of your treatment.
- Hyaluronic Acid: This provides deep hydration without irritation, which is exactly what “thirsty” post-treatment skin needs.
- Fragrance-Free Products: Avoid anything with heavy scents or essential oils, as these can sting or irritate vulnerable skin.
What to Put on Pause
While we love active ingredients, some of them are too aggressive for skin that is currently repairing itself. We recommend pausing these for 5-7 days (or until your skin has completely settled):
- Retinol and Retinoids: These increase cell turnover and can be too harsh immediately post-treatment.
- AHAs and BHAs: Put the glycolic and salicylic acids away for a few days.
- Vitamin C Serums: While great for brightening, the acidity can be irritating on fresh skin.
- Physical Scrubs or Exfoliants: Your skin is already doing the work of resurfacing; it doesn’t need the extra friction.
The Non-Negotiable: SPF
If there is one rule you follow, let it be this: SPF is not optional.
After any laser or resurfacing treatment, your skin is significantly more vulnerable to UV damage. Skipping sunscreen doesn’t just risk a sunburn; it can cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), undo your results, and set your skin health back weeks.
Apply a broad-spectrum SPF every single day, rain or shine.
